Mick Philpott, Paul Mosley and Mairead Philpott were convicted of the manslaughter of 6 children who were killed in a house fire.
Jade Philpott 10, John Philpott 9, Jack Philpott 8, Jesse Philpott 6, Jayden Philpott 5 and Duwayne Philpott 13 died as a result of the fire on 11 May 2012.
Other than Duwayne Philpott who died the next day they all died in the house.
The BBC note that the court had not heard that Mick Philpott had been convicted of attempted murder in 1978 when he stabbed his ex-girlfriend aged 17 13 times as she lay sleeping when she had ended their relationship, after which he attacked her mother.
The court heard that Mick Philpott hoped the fire would frame his ex-mistress for the attack so he could win custody of his children.
Mairead Philpott was sentenced to 17 years but was released on 28 November 2020.
